Earlier today I made a statement on Twitter, not to degrade other artists or pinpoint favorites, but to simply state my opinion:
"@_arilynmonroexo: In my ears, TI has the best features. Idk if its bc i love his personality and his verses make me laugh, but i can listen to him all day."
Now, I'm not going to take back what I said; however, I am going to back it up with legitimate thoughts.
As I was growing up, I was taught to never judge a book by its cover because the story is always different inside. Every author writes a different stories for their characters, but they too as normal people have different stories. The point is, all rappers have different personal lives, memories, and stories. Just like authors, what they write doesn't always mean it's what really is happening in their lives. That statement then brings along the question: "Then why say it/write it?" The answer simply is because people want to hear it. Just like Presidential Candidates, they know their audience so they want to speak directly to it. Rappers know their audience and know what they have to do in order to get sales.
I'm a huge fan of all types of music and artists but as a person, I am entitled to have an opinion. TI just happens to be one of my favorite rappers right now because I feel connected to him as person, not just a rapper. About a year ago, him and his family aired a television reality show of their lives titled "TI and Tiny: The Family Hustle." I personally believe now that I know the background of TI, his music makes more sense. He's writing and performing to support his family and give his children the childhood he never had.
Just like TI or should I say Clifford Harris Jr, all the well known rappers today have their own story. Robert Williams was literally rescued from the streets, Sean Anderson, like most, didn't finish high school, Daniel Simmons is trying to create his own name, Onika Maraj was given the chance to come to America and new she was going to take advantage of it, and there's a list that can go on for days. I just believe that as a fan, you should know your favorite artist personally, and I commend TI for giving his fans that opportunity.
