How Do You Wash Your Hair?

These tips come from my personal experiences. I have found them extremely helpful and have received great results. Keep in mind, everyone is different.

Shampooing: When washing my hair, I prefer using cold water. Using warm water easily dries scalp which can cause flakes, especially when heating tools are involved. Before applying shampoo, always read the directions on the back of the bottle (especially if you're using the product for the first time). Some shampoos require you to lather once and others, twice. Apply shampoo into palm and rub your hands together to evenly distribute the product. Gently apply shampoo to your hair using your fingertips, not palms. Remember, shampooing is to clean your scalp not have bubble mania in the shower. Massage scalp, then rinse.

Conditioning: This is the fun part! Before conditioning, you must read the directions again because you do not know how long to keep it in. With the conditioner I use, I have to leave it in for three minutes while being under a shower cap. While conditioning, remember that you already shampooed (cleaned your scalp) and conditioner is to moisturize and help repair hair. Therefore, apply conditioner to your ends, and work your way up. After you applied a decent amount, take a wide tooth comb and comb hair from root to end to evenly distribute the conditioner. Depending on the product, let it sit, then rinse thoroughly.

Drying: Some prefer air dry, others prefer towel dry, I prefer using an old cotton t-shirt. When using a t-shirt to dry or ring out your hair, you'll notice nothing is tugging and pulling on your hair, especially drying ends and causing them to split. Towels tend to cause frizz due the friction being used, especially for us curly heads. So using a t-shirt helps to maintain frizz and natural curls because it does not mess up one's curl pattern like a towel does.
