Cyber Bullying

Sitting, staring, at the one thing that would usually take the stress away; your computer. Having this horrible feeling in your stomach because you are afraid to refresh the page and see what others have to say about you, has to be the worst feeling anyone could ever experience. No human being should be afraid to use their own personal computer or even be afraid to go to school, but according to American Justice Department statistics, 1 out of every 4 children are (224).

It is very important to work to delete cyberbullying because children and young teens who are afraid to attend school are losing their education, and in most cases, they’re losing their lives. Technology today is very intense and its only going to get worse over the years. Most people who experience cyberbullying fail to tell someone about it, and usually, cyberbullying leads to physical bullying, which then leads to emotional stress. So not only are these children afraid to open their computer and go on their favorite social network, they’re afraid to attend the second place they are supposed to be the most safe, school.

No matter what, children will have access to the internet. If they have access to the internet, they have access to Facebook and any other social network where it’s easy to expose someone, and humiliate them publicly. Children rely on going home and escaping from school issues, but when their being bullied in their home and in the halls, they feel that there’s no where else to go but out. No parent wants their child to feel like they’re worthless in their home, and no teacher wants their student to believe the mean words written in the bathroom stalls. Children should always feel safe, especially in the comfort of their own home and the place that their future depends on.

In order to prevent cyberbullying, parents, school staff, and friends need to get involved. Sometimes, signs of a bullied victim are right in front of us, and no one really can tell. Parents should be able to access their child’s social network account and if there is any signs of bullying, report it to the school so who ever is involved can be punished.

It is very important to work to delete cyberbullying because the children are our future and with death rates of children rising, our future doesn’t look very clear. That’s why cyberbullying needs to be stopped, for the safety of our children, schools, and homes. At the end of the day, it’s so much more than a tap of an “enter” key.
