Do You Take Life For Granted?

So today I realized how easy it is for us to take life for granted. One's life can change dramatically in result of a blood test, acceptance letter, or a knock on their door. I am beyond thankful for everything I have been able to accomplish these past few years and I couldn't see things going any differently.

The past few weeks have been filled with great times, but unfortunately they were held under bad circumstances. For example, I recently had the chance to reunite with my mother's side of the family but at my mommom's funeral. Get the idea? I guess what I'm trying to say is it shouldn't take unfortunate circumstances to come together as a family, have intellectual conversations, or do things you thought you never could accomplish.

Today, however, was my church's picnic and boy did it feel great to fellowship with everyone outside of service, without judging someone because of their "church attire" or recent "leave of absence." Fortunately, us all getting together wasn't under bad circumstances, but I do believe that everyone there today took that rejoicing time for granted. They would all tell you they enjoyed themselves, but did they really know what happened today? Did they appreciate the food that was prepared for all to enjoy, or was it just "delicious?" We all take life for granted and fail to realize how easily it can be ripped out from under our feet.

I recently got the results of my blood test and thankfully everything is perfectly fine. If only you guys knew what I was testing for, you would understand the sleepless nights and the autopilot days. It was in those weeks of worry I realized one little thing can change my life forever. Yeah, we make mistakes and sometimes cannot control the way things happen, but we can control how they happen.

If we take the time out to think about what we want in life, it gives us the time to plan for it to actually happen. That way, if any unfortunate circumstances arise, we can work around them. Life is all about spontaneity and ironically, full of surprises. I like surprises. I like a challenge. Sometimes things aren't always going to go as planned, but if you have a plan or an idea of how you initially want things to go, everything should be fine. Right?
